More Music

WHEW!!!!! At long last, I have successfully converted all (4000+) of my music files to the mp3 format (at least, all of the music files from my CD collection). I still have over 200 cassette tapes and some vinyl to convert, but all that will be time consuming because it has to be done in “real time”. I can now begin making the “back-up” discs.

Music, Music, Music

I have been woefully lacking in posting my ‘daily diaries’ lately. This is partly because of Thanksgiving. In addition, I am in the process of ‘backing up’ ALL of my music files (over 4000) onto DVD discs in the mp3 format. This entails converting ALL of them from wma files first. I hit a ’snag’ when I hit the “various artists” file. There were almost 800 songs there, and about 250 were “unknown artist”. I did what I could from memory, and now i’m using Windows Media Player to find the information on the albums and/or individual songs. A daunting task, but necessary. I lost all of my files about 5 months ago when my computer “crashed”, and had to re-install everything. I don’t want to go through that again, hence, the back-up. When i’m finished, i’ll have all of my music on about 5 discs. Much easier to re-install if necessary. Also, by converting to the mp3 format, I can make compilation CD’s with about 200 songs per disc. The radio/CD player in my truck will also read “file” discs, so I can play them in my truck as well. For Christmas, I may buy myself a similar radio/CD player for my Jeep. When i’m done with this, I still have over 200 cassette tapes to convert to mp3 format, and a little ‘vinyl’ as well. I may be done before Armageddon!! Anyway, i’ll try to catch up on the ‘dailies’ soon. Until then, bear with me.

Walter Steps Up

December 4, 2005 on 6:05 pm | In The MMM | No Comments

Over the Thanksgiving Weekend, I casually mentioned that Walter had become too chubby to jump into the truck without assistance, and that I was thinking of buying him a ramp. My brother Donald and I decided that all he really needed was a step not a whole ramp, which costs about $150.00 in the local PetSmart. On Monday, we decided to take a break from “geeking” and build him something. By “we” I mean that Donald found 2 “L” brackets which would fit into the holes on the running board (steps) of my truck. While he was cutting and welding the brackets to fit his design, I selected a nice piece of 3/8″ plywood from his woodpile. This done, the next step (pardon the pun) was to go to the local Home Depot, where I purchased a nice blue (to match the color of my truck) “carpet type” doormat and some attaching hardware. When we got back from Home Depot, I retired to the Kitchen to start preparing dinner, and Donald finished the step. Walter figured it out immediately and wasted no time utilizing it.

Walter and I really appreciate his efforts, and Walter enjoys having the ability to jump unassisted into the truck. Thanks Donald

Wolfie’s Wheeze

December 2, 2005 on 9:27 am | In The MMM | No Comments

On Wednesday, the 30th, about mid-day, Wolfie began coughing and wheezing. I at first thought that he had something stuck in his throat, but when it continued throughout the day, I became concerned. It subsided until that night when it began again. Thursday he seemed alright, but was listless, and about mid-afternoon, it started again. I was on the road enroute to Las Vegas, so there was nothing I could do. Again it subsided after a while, but I had decided to take him in to the Vet as soon as I could. On Friday, I took him to his regular Vet in Las Vegas. He coughed a little as we were checking in, but naturally, by the time the Vet was ready to see him, he had stopped. Diagnosing from described symptoms and a cursory examination of his throat to insure that there were no obvious obstructions in his esophagus, the Vet said that he probably had an upper respiratory infection, and prescribed some anti-biotics and a follow-up visit in 2 weeks. He is now only coughing occasionally. Hopefully the drugs will soon take effect and he will be better soon. He was a big, strong brave doggie throughout the ordeal. He doesn’t mind taking his pills, mainly because they are wrapped in a piece of cheese or lunch meat. That’s the only way to give a pet Oral Medicine.
