Life Day 22818: Happy New Year
January 1, 2010 on 12:01 am | In Homefront | No CommentsLife Day 22807: It’s Going To Be A Short Day
December 21, 2009 on 9:58 pm | In Homefront | No CommentsHappy Winter Solstice everyone. Thankfully today is the shortest day of the year. It was cold and rainy most of the day. Occasionally, the sun peeked through the clouds, but it was insufficient to warm the day.
I had a doctors appointment at the VA this morning. Things are well for me health-wise. My cholesterol, blood sugar, blood pressure and heart are all good. I got a regular flu shot, the H1N1 flu shot and a tetanus shot as well. The doctor did notice that my red-cell count is a little low, and ordered another lab test. If they find anything to worry about, they’ll schedule another appointment.
I spent the rest of the day ‘geeking’.
Life Day 22805: Utah State Capitol, the Mormon Tabernacle and Temple Square
December 19, 2009 on 2:39 am | In Homefront | No CommentsIn July, Donald and I returned to Salt Lake City, UTÂ for more follow-up doctors appointments. The first few days I spent cleaning out my truck. Donald spent his days “geeking”. After I finished that task, we did a lot of sight-seeing. The first little side trip we took was the Utah State Capitol and Temple Square.
When we finished there, we went to Temple Square. The Tabernacle is an awesome sight at night.
The Mormon office buildings are also pretty impressive.
These pictures of Temple Square don’t really do it justice.
It is hard to take good flower pictures at night.
Life Day 22802: Jordan Park & International Peace Garden: SLC, UT
December 16, 2009 on 11:25 am | In Homefront | No CommentsAs promised a couple of days ago, here are the first photographs taken during my recovery. These were taken on Jun 6th of this year in Jordan Park, while Donald and I were in Salt Lake City, UT for my follow-up doctors appointments. The park was a serene place to wile away the idle hours. We made the park our “home base” during the day, and at night, we stayed at the Flying J truck stop. Anyway, here are the pictures.
Included in the park is a skateboard park, a couple of baseball diamonds, and the International Peace Gardens.
Most of the major nations of the world are represented in exhibits of flora native to their area (whenever possible).
The Jordan River runs along the perimeter of a part of the Peace Gardens.
The Gardens are called the International Peace Gardens to promote peace between nations, but I found it a peaceful place to spend an hour or so.
I especially enjoyed the Asian exhibits.
Since the last picture is of a statue of Mahatma Ghandi, it is only fitting that I end this with a quote from him.
“Happiness is when what you think, what you say, and what you do are in harmony”.
Life Day 22800: I’m Baaack
December 14, 2009 on 11:21 pm | In Homefront | No CommentsIt’s been over 6 months since I last posted, so I guess it’s time to get back into it again. I am about fully recovered from my health problems this summer. My diabetes is now controlled by pills, and my heart problems seem to be in check for the moment.
In the near future, I will be posting pictures of my travels over the summer during my recovery.
